Key updates included a redesigned commander’s cupola with seven periscopes and\na side-opening hatch, an anti-aircraft machine gun ring mount, and revised exterior fittings.\nZimmerit anti-magnetic mine coating was applied to vertical surfaces beginning in September 1943,\nwhile a gun travel lock was added to the rear hull from November of that year.\n\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003cp\u003e\nAdditional changes included the replacement of dual front headlamps with a single centrally\nmounted unit and the eventual deletion of turret side pistol ports. Although large rubber-rimmed\nroad wheels remained standard, the outer first road wheels were often removed in muddy or snowy\nconditions, particularly on the Eastern Front.
